Resolution Support Centre Moving to 7th Floor, Calgary Courts Centre

Resolution Support Centre Information Services: Self Help (formerly Law Information Centre) is moving to the 7th floor, South Tower, Calgary Courts Centre effective January 1, 2017.

Information Services provides general information and referrals to Albertans regarding:

  • court processes and legal service options
  • assistance with locating and filling out court forms for family and civil matters
  • Resolution and Court Administration Programs and Services
  • referrals to other community legal resources

Court Programs Holiday Closures

Calgary Court Programs Holiday Closure Dates:

  • The Court Assistance Program and free legal advice clinic at Calgary Courts Centre (North Tower, 8th Floor) will close at 4:00 pm on Thursday, December 15, and reopen on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at 9:00 am.
  • The Civil Claims Duty Counsel Program at Calgary Courts Centre (South Tower, 15th Floor) will close at 4:00 pm on Friday, December 16 and reopen on Monday, January 9, 2017 at 12:30 pm.

Edmonton Court Programs Holiday Closure Dates:

  • The Court Assistance Program at Edmonton Law Courts (2nd Floor, South Tower) is closed as of Wednesday December 14 and will reopen on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 9:00 am.
  • The Civil Claims Duty Counsel Program at Edmonton Law Courts Building (2nd Floor, Provincial Court) will close at 4:00 pm Thursday, December 15 and reopen Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at 10:00 am.

Gillian Marriott, QC Appointed to Court of Queen’s Bench

Gillian Marriott photo 2016Madam Justice Gillian D. Marriott, former Executive Director of Pro Bono Law Alberta has been appointed to the Court of Queen’s Bench effective June 17, 2016. Madam Justice Marriott has been involved with Pro Bono Law Alberta for 10 years, serving as a Founding Board Member from 2006-2008 and as Executive Director from January 2009 to March 2016. The Board and Staff at Pro Bono Law Alberta extend our sincerest congratulations to Madam Justice Marriott on this achievement.

Edmonton Resolution Support Services – Improving Access to Legal Services

Effective February 1, 2016, Edmontonians and those in the surrounding area will have access to the Edmonton Resolution Support Centre on the eighth floor of the John E. Brownlee Building (10365 97 St.). The Edmonton Resolution Support Centre offers a single point of contact for accessing a range of legal resolution and information services previously located in different areas within the Edmonton courthouse.

Going to Court? Get ready with educational films on legal topics

Going to court can be stressful. You can prepare ahead of time by viewing these short educational films on basic courtroom procedures and processes, foreclosure, civil claims matters and landlord and tenant issues. Each film has easy to understand instructions and tips to help you better understand these legal topics. Scripts are available for each film in seven languages: English, Spanish, French, Arabic, Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu. A list of resources discussed in the Landlord and Tenant, Foreclosures and Civil Claims videos is also available for download.

The films were produced by Pro Bono Law Alberta in partnership with Canadian Bar Association- Alberta Branch and members of the judiciary from Alberta courts.
