7th annual Calgary Legal Advice Clinic – October 18, 2017

Pro Bono Law Alberta will host the 7th annual Calgary Legal Advice Clinic on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 in partnership with Norton Rose Fulbright (Canada) LLP, Calgary Public Library and Calgary Legal Guidance.

Attention lawyers, articling students and law students:

Save the Date- working with Vulnerable Clients
The workshop is for all lawyers, articling students, and law students. Through simulation and skill building exercises, participants will learn practical skills to work with vulnerable clients.

The workshop is a project of the Justice Sector Constellation of Enough for All, Calgary’s Poverty Reduction Initiative, in partnership with Calgary Legal Guidance, Mount Royal University, and Pro Bono Law Alberta.

The Great Bar Band Battle, June 1, Calgary

The Great Bar Band Battle is a fundraising event in support of access to justice initiatives and organizations. The 2016 event raised over $15,000 for Calgary Legal Guidance, and the 2017 edition is in support of Student Legal Assistance.

The event will feature five – six bands consisting of lawyers and other members of the Alberta legal community, each competing for the coveted Bar Band Battle Championship Cup.

Public Legal Education Workshops, April to June – Edmonton

Edmonton Community Legal Centre (ECLC) hosts FREE Public Legal Education workshops. These presentations are open to the public and certain locations require registration.

The Edmonton Community Legal Centre continues to hold the Family Law Series Presentations at the Downtown Enterprise Square Branch Library 10212 Jasper Avenue NW every Thursday evening at 6:30 PM. These presentations are open to the public with the option to register to be contacted for a potential follow-up meeting with a Family Law Lawyer for additional assistance. The schedules for the topics are as follows:

  • Child Custody and Parenting: April 20, May 11, June 1, June 22
  • Child and Spousal Support: April 6, April 27, May 18, June 8
  • Property Division: April 13, May 4, May 25, June 5

A presentation on Wills and Estates will be held at the Capilano Library (200 Capilano Mall, 5616 101 Avenue) on Monday April 10 at 7 PM.

Topics include, Family Law, Wills and Estates, Landlord and Tenant, Immigration, Employment and Introduction to the Canadian Justice System.
