9:30 am to 3:30 pm, Calgary Public Library downtown branch, 2nd Floor John Dutton Theatre. Appointments can no longer be booked for this clinic as the booking period ended October 11.

Held as part of Law Connect, Calgary Public Library’s annual legal resources fair.

The Great Bar Band Battle, June 1, Calgary

The Great Bar Band Battle is a fundraising event in support of access to justice initiatives and organizations. The 2016 event raised over $15,000 for Calgary Legal Guidance, and the 2017 edition is in support of Student Legal Assistance.

The event will feature five – six bands consisting of lawyers and other members of the Alberta legal community, each competing for the coveted Bar Band Battle Championship Cup.

Public Legal Education Workshops, April to June – Edmonton

Edmonton Community Legal Centre (ECLC) hosts FREE Public Legal Education workshops. These presentations are open to the public and certain locations require registration.

The Edmonton Community Legal Centre continues to hold the Family Law Series Presentations at the Downtown Enterprise Square Branch Library 10212 Jasper Avenue NW every Thursday evening at 6:30 PM. These presentations are open to the public with the option to register to be contacted for a potential follow-up meeting with a Family Law Lawyer for additional assistance. The schedules for the topics are as follows:

  • Child Custody and Parenting: April 20, May 11, June 1, June 22
  • Child and Spousal Support: April 6, April 27, May 18, June 8
  • Property Division: April 13, May 4, May 25, June 5

A presentation on Wills and Estates will be held at the Capilano Library (200 Capilano Mall, 5616 101 Avenue) on Monday April 10 at 7 PM.

Topics include, Family Law, Wills and Estates, Landlord and Tenant, Immigration, Employment and Introduction to the Canadian Justice System.

Calgary Resilience Symposium March 18

Marital breakdown causes a flood of emotions and a shaken sense of security. Taking decisive actions restores dignity and helps build resilience. ACES, the Association of A Community Engaged in Sharing, encourages media to inform their audience about the Calgary Resilience Symposium where people can learn about and discuss the variety of supports available to individuals and families facing decisions about one of the biggest life changes they will experience.

WHAT:  A full day of lectures and learnings from professionals who will answer questions pertaining to family matters, legal issues, financial planning and insurance inquiries, as well as mental and physical health topics. Everyone’s focus is on helping participants to make the right decisions for moving forward.

WHO:  Keynote Speakers at the Calgary Divorce Symposium include:

  • Nicole Sherren – Alberta Wellness Initiative 
  • Cyndy Morin – Resolve Legal Group
  • John-Paul Boyd – Canadian Research Institute for Law and the Family
  • Sharon Numerow – Certified Divorce Financial Specialist
  • Dr. Sue Clark – Psychologist
