9:30 am to 3:30 pm, Calgary Public Library downtown branch, 2nd Floor John Dutton Theatre. Appointments can no longer be booked for this clinic as the booking period ended October 11.

*Walk in appointments may be available on a first come-first served basis on October 18.

Held as part of Law Connect, Calgary Public Library’s annual legal resources fair.


Public Legal Education Workshops, April to June – Edmonton

Edmonton Community Legal Centre (ECLC) hosts FREE Public Legal Education workshops. These presentations are open to the public and certain locations require registration.

The Edmonton Community Legal Centre continues to hold the Family Law Series Presentations at the Downtown Enterprise Square Branch Library 10212 Jasper Avenue NW every Thursday evening at 6:30 PM. These presentations are open to the public with the option to register to be contacted for a potential follow-up meeting with a Family Law Lawyer for additional assistance. The schedules for the topics are as follows:

  • Child Custody and Parenting: April 20, May 11, June 1, June 22
  • Child and Spousal Support: April 6, April 27, May 18, June 8
  • Property Division: April 13, May 4, May 25, June 5

A presentation on Wills and Estates will be held at the Capilano Library (200 Capilano Mall, 5616 101 Avenue) on Monday April 10 at 7 PM.

Resolution Support Centre Moving to 7th Floor, Calgary Courts Centre

Resolution Support Centre Information Services: Self Help (formerly Law Information Centre) is moving to the 7th floor, South Tower, Calgary Courts Centre effective January 1, 2017.

Information Services provides general information and referrals to Albertans regarding:

  • court processes and legal service options
  • assistance with locating and filling out court forms for family and civil matters
  • Resolution and Court Administration Programs and Services
  • referrals to other community legal resources

Court Programs Holiday Closures

Calgary Court Programs Holiday Closure Dates:

  • The Court Assistance Program and free legal advice clinic at Calgary Courts Centre (North Tower, 8th Floor) will close at 4:00 pm on Thursday, December 15, and reopen on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at 9:00 am.
  • The Civil Claims Duty Counsel Program at Calgary Courts Centre (South Tower, 15th Floor) will close at 4:00 pm on Friday, December 16 and reopen on Monday, January 9, 2017 at 12:30 pm.

Edmonton Court Programs Holiday Closure Dates:

  • The Court Assistance Program at Edmonton Law Courts (2nd Floor, South Tower) is closed as of Wednesday December 14 and will reopen on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 9:00 am.
  • The Civil Claims Duty Counsel Program at Edmonton Law Courts Building (2nd Floor, Provincial Court) will close at 4:00 pm Thursday, December 15 and reopen Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at 10:00 am.

Free Legal Clinic October 19 – Calgary

Thanks to the efforts of 34 volunteer lawyers, 111 people received free legal advice on October 19, 2016 at Calgary Public Library. This is the 6th year that Pro Bono Law Alberta has collaborated with Norton Rose Fulbright LLP,  Calgary Legal Guidance and Calgary Public Library to host this Legal Advice Clinic. In addition to the Norton Rose Fulbright team, five independent lawyers provided advice to walk in clients and six paralegals assisted with client flow and collecting feedback. Thank you to everyone who participated in this event!

Clients must meet financial eligibility guidelines to qualify for pro bono legal services. Additional clinics will be held on February 10, May 26 and September 22, 2017.

Assistance in Court: applications, motions and other appearances in Masters, Justice and Bankruptcy Chambers

  • Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. 9th and 10th Floor North

Free legal advice clinic: civil matters including foreclosure, bankruptcy, landlord and tenant and preparing for court

  • Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: 9:00 to 9:30 am and 1:00 to 4:00 pm. Room 8-49, 8th Floor North.

First come, first served.This program does not assist with family law matters such as divorce and child support.
